Professional Qualification
Jayabalan graduated with LL.B (Hons.) from the International Islamic University Malaysia in 1996. He was admitted to the Malaysian Bar as Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in April 1997. Jaya also obtained post-graduate Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from the International Islamic University Malaysia in 2005.

Jaya is an active trial and appellate litigator since 1997. He regularly appears for trial and appeals before all levels of courts in Malaysia.
Jaya specialises in civil litigation. He regularly handles litigation in the area of professional liability claims such medical negligence, personal injury claims, employment disputes at the Industrial Court and Labour Court, house buyer’s claim, road accident and workplace injury claims, contract and commercial claims, judicial review, claims against financial institutions and claims under insurance policies, land and trust disputes, probate and disputes over wills. Cases handled by Jaya over the years are also reported in the law reports, news and journals.
Jaya has previously served as Chairman of the Johore Bar and Bar Rep to the Bar Council. He is a member of the Bar Council and is currently serving as Secretary of the Malaysian Bar, having previously served as the Treasurer of the Malaysian Bar. He has chaired several committees of the Bar Council such as the Finance Committee, Small Firms Practice Committee and as Co-Chair of the Constitutional Law Committee. He currently Co-Chairs the Bar Council Risk Management + ELEVATE Committee and the Sports Law Committee.
Jaya is a regular speaker at seminars and briefings for members of the Bar on issues of law, procedure and on matters of interest to the legal profession and legal practice in the country. He is also the author of the book titled Jaya’s Civil Trial Handbook: Essential Practice & Procedure for Malaysian Courts.
